How to Submit Content to Ultima Island

Since it seems that we have to sift through quite alot of rubbish lately, I thought I'd write a tutorial outlining how to go about submitting content to the site. Submitting content is a good thing - we thrive on fresh new content and we count on user submissions to keep going. However, there are some submissions that we cannot accept.

Graphics/Music/Literature stolen from other sites: this is the worst problem. We have too many people going to vgmusic.com or other big sites and downloading a track/graphic, and then submitting it here. This is a big no no. If people want this stuff, they can go to vgmusic - I will reject all content that I assume to be stolen in this way. Also, we don't like it when people submit articles or tutorials which are not submitted by them. Believe me we've had a couple of huge essays which are completely obviously not written byt he users that submitted them. When it comes to graphics our policy is that rips are okay to submit, so long as you are the one that ripped them or you have permission from the person who ripped them.

Short Reviews/Articles: The length and content of every piece of writing varies. However to get your submission onto the site and to earn your exp & gold you need to make sure that your literature has a decent amount of content. Rodpop's reviews are great. mlake6's reviews are not. I've had enough of 1-line reviews which say (and this is a real submission that we received) "oh come on i thought it was good 10/10". If your writing isn't at the very least about 10 lines I probably won't even read it and it will get rejected.

Repeated Content: As our database is growing this is starting to become an issue. If you decide that you want to write an rm2k3 tutorial, good on you, but please for the love of God don't write another tutorial about how to make a variable in rpg maker. We have that covered. Try to write something new or original. The same goes for resources - if you have ripped a sound from ff7 you should search the site first to check if we already have what you are about to submit.

Grammar & Spelling: We have had some shockers, haven't we? Admittedly, I am the one who validated them. However that was then, when the site was new and we needed content to get us on our feet, and this is now. Now we have about 65 tutorials and 100 articles. We can afford to be a bit more picky. Seriously, would it be so hard to read your writing before you submit it or run it through a spell checker? It doesn't have to be absolutely word perfect but retarded writing is no longer going to be accepted. Your article can have the best and most interesting stuff in the world but that's no good to anybody if we can't read it.

Formatting your Text: You are free to format your text however you wish, but remember that HTML can never be used. Stick to BBcode. And please always put your code examples inside code tags. There is an extensive BBCode guide in the forums (click here) if you need any help and you can do almost anything you want with it.

In Summary

  • Don't take content from other sites without permission
  • Don't submit repeat content (stuff we already have)
  • Proof read your literature before submitting
  • Format your text with bbcode and use the code tags
